Have your heart set on a contemporary, modern style for your wedding but can’t find a sleek, urban venue to match? Don’t automatically exclude a more traditional venue. With the right styling and a few rentals, you can create the look you want in even the most classic setting. Our team wanted to create a stylized, modern look the Great Southern Club in Gulfport, Mississippi. A traditional social club, the venue features neutral colors and gleaming wood walls, the perfect venue for a classic and elegant event. The Club also has claim to arguably one of the best views of the gulf on the Mississippi Coast with windows flanking the entire building, a gorgeous foyer staircase on the first floor, and a lovely outdoor space, both suitable for ceremonies and photo ops.
Our design team utilized those windows for light and as a natural backdrop for our head table and buffet station. Using a soft palette of gray and white with lots of greenery, Flowers Forever created beautiful bouquets, centerpieces and a hanging installation of calla lilies to match the bridal bouquet. Unique concrete geometric candle holders and vases were paired with trendy geometric table numbers and acrylic place cards for a clean, modern look. A ceremony space was setup in the outdoor space with white garden chairs arranged in a circular pattern to accent the patio area. The gleaming floors of the lobby stair was perfect for formal portraits and often serves as a ceremony location for couples choosing to wed at the venue.

Our team decided to pass on a tradition wedding cake. While doughnuts are super popular, the wall of pastries was just to casual for this event. This is our team’s take on the elegant croquembouche using simple doughnut holes from Krispy Kreme dusted with powdered sugar.

The Great Southern Club
Since 1988, the Great Southern Club has maintained social and cultural prominence in the Mississippi Coastal community. Located in the heart of Gulfport, Mississippi, the Club offers a unique facility, quality food, and personal service to provide the perfect setting for a successful gathering. For those who entertain professionally or personally, the Great Southern Club is a natural partner. They provide an upscale facility to use for both business success and personal pleasure.
The Club offers many amenities and benefits to their members, including reciprocal clubs that honor Great Southern Club membership in over 80 clubs throughout the United States and clubs internationally. Wedding venue space is open to non-members of the club. With panoramic views of the Mississippi Gulf Coast with inland and seaward views of the three coastal counties, the club can host rehearsal dinners for up to 200 guests, small wedding ceremonies and receptions for up to 150 guests in part of the Sunset Ballroom, and weddings and receptions for up to 325 guests in the full Sunset Ballroom. Large receptions for up to 600 guests can be accommodated with the entire club booking.
Weddings may be held in the courtyard with any package booked at the Great Southern Club. Packages include white folding chairs, lattice arch (8′) and four columns (2-32″ and 2-40″).
