Overlooked details during wedding planning

You’ve spent months planning your wedding, thinking of every little detail and every aspect, creating a carefully created day that encapsulates everything you’ve dreamed of. Everyone wants their wedding day to be perfect, which is why it takes months, even years, to ensure everything is just right. But have you considered everything? Is there anything you’ve missed? There are some details that can easily be overlooked when planning a wedding.

Alterations

It’s not so much overlooked but not always considered, especially if you buy your dress at the last minute. Wedding dress alterations cannot always be done quickly, depending on the material and complexity of the wedding dress design. This goes for bridesmaids’ dresses, the groom’s and groomsmen’s outfits, and the wedding party as a whole. When purchasing your wedding attire, ensure that you have enough time for wedding gown alterations and any other changes that need to be made, especially if anyone in the party purchases attire at the last minute.

Who Will Hold Your Belongings

Depending on the type of wedding you choose to have, you need to consider things like who will hold your keys and or cell phones during the ceremony. If you’re getting married at a venue with overnight accommodations, you can leave personal items in your room, but if you’re keeping your phone close by for checking in on relatives, kids, pets, or just to snap selfies with your guests, designate someone to be in charge of these items. You won’t want to leave your iPhone or car keys in the bridal suite, especially if your ceremony and reception are in different locations. Make sure you have someone tht can be responsible for keeping these items safe and making sure you have them before you leave your reception. You don’t want to head off on your honeymoon without your phone!

Child or Pet Care

If you have your kids or pets at the service, consider who will oversee them. While it’s very generous for family members to offer to hold your pet or watch your children during the ceremony, you don’t want that responsibility to fall on a guest or family member during your reception. Consider hiring a service to help care for your children and any pets for the event so everyone can enjoy the day without missing anything. There are services for hire that will bring your pet to your ceremony and return them to your home following photos. Babysitters to watch your or your guests’ children will allow parents to relax and enjoy your day with you. This thoughtful consideration will ensure everyone, including your little ones and pets, can fully enjoy the day.

Vendor Services

Thinking about how and when you pay for services can be something you are aware of, but if you need to make payment on the day, it can be tricky to sign off the final details and get those invoices cleared. Always insist on paying upfront and ensure the payment has cleared in time for the wedding day, so this is one less thing to worry about on the day, even if you pay the day before. If any payments need to happen the day or the event, or if you want to provide tips for your vendors, assign the task to your father, brother or sister, or a trusted friend. Put the funds/checks in an envelope with the vendors’ names and make sure to give them a full list of vendors to pay for you.

Providing refreshments for service providers on the day of your wedding is often forgotten. Your vendor team is going to be working like crazy before, during and after your event. They have a short window of time during your ceremony and reception to take a break and eat. Your planner, florist, photographer, videographer, dj, and all vendors working your reception should be considered. Ask your caterer about vendor meals or if you need to include in the catering count. Consider providing special food and drinks and a private space for them to take a break away from your wedding. Ask beforehand what they prefer so you can be prepared to accommodate them on the day. Don’t forget your beauty team. Hair and makeup starts very early, and these folks can spend hours on their feet without a break. Bring in brunch and snacks for your bridal party and beauty team to enjoy while you are getting ready.
