Brittany and Josh’s winter garden wedding in Alabama went off without a hitch – despite an unusual Alabama snowfall the night before! The unexpected conditions didn’t stop this couple from having the most beautiful winter garden wedding full of love, memories and incredible photography by Eric & Jamie Photography.
“The day before their wedding, a whole mess of rain dropped on central Alabama as the temperature fell below freezing,” explained photographer Eric Gay. “After nightfall, the sleet turned into snow, and we woke up to a winter wonderland. We were thanking our lucky stars though, because we chose to be super safe and get a hotel a mile away from Aldridge Gardens, so that if the roads were too bad to drive, we could at least walk to our wedding!”
“It’s not often that Alabama gets snow or ice,” he continues. “Really, the chances are slim to none, and no one thinks twice about getting married in the winter here. Heck, we got married in February, and the high was in the mid 50’s! But every once in a while, we’ll get a little tweak in our typically mild winter season that leaves people flocking to the grocery store for milk and bread, because they might be stuck inside their house for a few days… and forced to eat milk sandwiches, obviously.”
Editor’s note: We can attest to this. Flurries can send even the most level headed among us to the closest Kroger or Publix to buy up all the milk, bread and toilet paper. Snow may be a minor inconvenience up north but it can bring entire metropolitan areas to a standstill in the south. And it can certainly derail an outdoor winter garden wedding and reception.
“We were inspired by Brittney and Josh’s incredible attitude and decided at the end of the day that we could all be a little more like Brittney and Josh. They do not sweat the small stuff and they are laser focused on what is truly important,” Eric said. “Yes, things happened due to the ice that wasn’t ideal, but no, it did not remove one ounce of love and happiness from this wedding. These two kept each other smiling and warm, and in turn, guests had a ball! Dancing, eating, and hugging necks – it was a party!”
Congratulations, Brittney and Josh! May your love keep you warm for many years to come! – IDY
