Amber, how long have you been in business?
I have been in this industry for 13 amazing years!
How did you get started?
I had always been interested in hair and makeup from an early age. I was encouraged by family and friends that being a stylist would be an amazing career for me, and here I am 13 years later just as much in love with the path that I chose.
Amber, tell us about your expertise and experience as a hairstylist and makeup artist?
I am the founder and owner of Shear Envy Salon in Tupelo Mississippi. I started my career in retail where I learned the importance of superior customer service. My first training in cosmetology came from Fosters Cosmetology School in Ripley, MS. I wanted to become an expert on hair color and in short order won an award for the “Most Color Sales” at the chain salon where I worked.
I have learned that it is very important to continue education and to never stop learning, and being a go getter always helps! I have been blessed to work with models for bridal shows, doing hair and makeup for photo shoots, as well as being published in magazines as well as online publications.
I pride myself on keeping up with the latest trends and cosmetology techniques. I continually attend trade shows and take hands-on classes. I am currently attending classes with the Sahag dry hair cutting technique and aspire to be an ongoing part of the Education program for Sahag. I also am an active member of BNI Tupelo. (Business Networking international)
My skills cross multiple venues and the range covers multicultural hair, corrective color, grey coverage, high light/ low lights, Sahag Hair Cuts, Formal Hair, Straightening systems, certified OPI gel color, Brazilian Blowouts, Microbeading and hair extensions. I also have extensive experience with Shellac Manicures and Pedicures, Keratin Complex, body waxing, airbrush tanning and much, much more.
Tell us about your company: what you do, special services, products, exclusives, etc.

We carry the latest up to date styling products such as Amika, Sudzz, Sahag and so much more! We have been featured in many online publications including Modern Salon Magazine, American Salon Magazine, Beauty Launchpad, Hot on Beauty magazine and Behind the Chair, We have also been featured in The Premier Bride of Mississippi magazine! I also had the pleasure of assisting Martin Parsons at The Premier Birmingham hair show!
What do you like most about what you do?
What I love the most is that every day and every client is a new experience. I get to create individualized pieces of art through my work, day after day! I build relationships and earn the trust of so many people and I can truly say that I am very blessed to be able to do what I love and love what I do.
What are the trends for bridal hairstyles for 2016?
I am seeing a lot of styles with “undone texture”, this includes all types of braids, curls and crimps! All of these in conjunction with each other can create beautiful, sophisticated, yet edgy styles.
What are the trends for makeup for 2016?
The makeup trends we are seeing follow very closely to the hair trends for 2016. We want to keep your make up soft and romantic with a edgy flare!
What advice would you offer brides for selecting a hairstylist for their wedding?
Brides definitely need to do their research! Check out social media outlets such as Facebook and Instagram. These serve as great portfolios to showcase ones work. Booking a consultation as well as a trial run should really help you make the right decision.
What tips would you like to offer the bride to help with her preparation for her wedding day?
I always recommend pinning photos of hair, make up, nails and ect.. To be able to relay to your stylist 100% the desired goal! Book your airbrush tanning, manicures, pedicures and body waxing services about 1 week out from your set date! Hair color appointments should be 2-3 weeks out, and always be conservative on your choices when selecting your hair color.
A lot of attention is centered on the bride’s hair, what advice do you have for the groom and groomsmen?
The groom and groomsmen should get haircuts about two weeks out and a slight clean up a couple days before! This will be more flattering in photographs. The groom should also get a very basic manicure the week of because there will be photographs taken of his/her hands.
If you could give a bride on tip/one bit of advice, what would that be?
The best advice I can give to brides is to breathe easy, and relax. You have so many amazing people that will be there to help you! Keep up with a checklist and do your research to find the best possible fit for your needs and budget.
