Steve, how long have you been in business as a photographer?
I’ve been in business for 13 years.
How did you get started?
It’s an old story. I bought a film camera a long time ago and photographed a few friends’ weddings. I realized that I had a pretty good eye and I started studying all things photographic.
What do you like most about what you do?
I like people. I could probably make a living photographing soup cans, but there wouldn’t be much fun in that for me. My favorite part of wedding photography is presenting the album. I love to see the bride and groom’s faces light up when they see what I saw at their wedding.
Tell us about you and your company: what you do, special services, products, exclusives, etc.
I earned my Certified Professional Photographer designation from Professional Photographers of America in 2014. This gives my clients the assurance that their products and services will meet a very high standard. All of my wedding packages include unlimited time for the reception, eliminating a lot of stress on the wedding day.
If you could give a bride one tip/one bit of advice, what would that be?
Before you begin the discussion on pricing from any of your vendors, check their references. The best source of information on a vendor is a former client. Ask around! Your friends and coworkers are a valuable source of input.
Any funny stories to share (no names please)?
I photographed a beach wedding a few years ago, and the celebration included a bonfire and Chinese Sky Lanterns. (Google it!) After a few tries, someone got the lantern lit, but due to a strong wind, it only went about six feet up before it headed north towards the four lane highway and the neighborhood just across the road. It cleared the traffic and the houses by a few feet, and all was well for the moment. Then the police showed up. The said the folks who lived nearby had reported “fireballs in the sky” and politely asked the revelers to cease and desist!
