The perfect wedding dress needs to be accented with a hairstyle that is flattering to a bride. She can peruse through magazines to get ideas for a bridal hairstyle, but the final decision can seem to be overwhelming. Consider these helpful trends, techniques, and tips to make the final decision effortless.
1. Hire a professional hairstylist
Many elements of wedding day preparations can bring stress, so a bride should consider not adding to her stress level with a do-it-yourself wedding day hairstyle. The benefits of hiring a professional hairstylist bypass the possibility of a hair disaster. A professional hairstylist can also take on the task of creating a hairstyle that is picture worthy and worry-free.
Amber Bosarge Lord, Owner of Salon Rouge
“I have been a hairstylist for about nine years now. Beginning in beauty school, I found that I had a special passion for wedding updos and hairstyles. My perfection for hair and years of practice have provided me with the ability to accomplish any wedding hairstyle.”
“Whether it is a simple loose curl, extravagant updo or something in between, I have you covered! I also specialize in coloring and cutting so I can get your color just perfect for your big day as well.”
Amber Moyer, Owner of Shear Envy Salon
“I have been in this industry for 13 years and have seen so many trends and styles evolve. I have learned that it is very important to continue education and to never stop learning, and being a go-getter always helps!
“I have been blessed to work with models for bridal shows, doing hair and makeup for photo shoots, as well as being published in magazines and online publications.”
2. Trends for 2016
The new year ushers in fresh trends and timeworn looks from last year. Professional hairstylists are on the cutting edge of the latest trends and will direct their clients in the direction best suited for the particular wedding.
Amber Moyer with Shear Envy Salon said, “I am seeing a lot of styles with “undone texture”, this includes all types of braids, curls and crimps! All of these in conjunction with each other can create beautiful, sophisticated, yet edgy styles.”
Amber Bosarge Lord with Salon Rouge has watched closely the trends and believes, “some of the popular trends for 2015 are going to flow over into 2016 like the Bohemian look, long loose curls and braids. Some newer trends will be chignons and hair with lots of volume. One of my favorite trends that will also flow over from 2015 will be hair accessories. Whether it is a small piece just to add a simple touch or a statement piece, I absolutely love hair accessories!”
3. Hair accessories vs. traditional veil
Hair accessories can be a nice accent for even the most traditional to modern-day bride. “An old Hollywood look where your hair has deep waves and is all pushed to one side in my opinion would look better with a hair piece to accentuate the style and to add a little shimmer,” Moyer said.
Accessories that are an option for a bride to choose from vary from headbands, hair combs, and even to tiaras. The choice between a traditional veil and hair accessories depends on personal preference of the bride and her hairstyle for the wedding day. “I think that bigger accessories look best when the hair is in an updo. Smaller accessories look best in half-up hairstyles. Headband pieces look great with any hairstyle. If you are going to wear a traditional veil, then I suggest sticking with a simpler hair accessory in the back of the hair,” Bosarge Lord said.
4. Consider the venue
Picture perfect hair is not always made easy when coupled with Mississippi’s unpredictable weather. Planning a hairstyle that will hold nicely against any weather conditions is important for an outdoor wedding. “Being in the South, I typically recommend wearing your hair in an updo because there is a big chance your hair will not hold up if your wedding is outdoors due to the lovely southern humidity. If the weather is perfect and your hair tends to hold a curl, then you should be safe to wear it down,” Bosarge Lord said.
Indoor weddings allow a bride to be more creative and comfortable with her hairstyle. A bride should choose a look that complements her dress and can stay in place for her fun-filled day.
5. Wedding attendants’ hairstyle
Communication is essential for the bride to articulate her expectations for the hairstyles for her wedding attendants. Should the bridesmaids’ hair all be styled the same by a particular hairstylist? Do the groomsmen need to be clean shaven or is it acceptable for any to have neatly groomed beards? Are there expectations for the little children’s hair that will be a part of the wedding? These are the types of questions that each bride should consider and clearly communicate with her wedding attendants.
Amber Moyer suggests, “The groom and groomsmen should get haircuts about two weeks out from the wedding and a slight clean up a couple days before, which will be more flattering in photographs.”
6. Durable styles are vital
When finalizing the decisions for the bride’s and wedding attendants’ hairstyles, remember that they should be durable and comfortable. The love-filled hugs, dancing moments, and fun-filled day will test all hairstyles. “The mother of the bride will be busy the day of the wedding making sure her daughter has everything go according to plan, so she should have a style that is elegant and simple, whether it will be worn up or down,” Moyer said.
7. Happy goes well with all type of hairstyles
The most important detail to remember is to savor the moments of your wedding day. A bride is beaming and beautiful to her family and friends, regardless of her wedding day hairstyle. The wedding day will come and go quickly and the memories shared with loved ones will always be cherished.
