Weekly Wedding Tip: Where do we start?

Congratulations!  You’re getting married.  Now what?  First, you as a couple need to sit down and talk about what you each envision for your wedding.  Do this in a relaxed, non-confrontational manner.  Granted, the bride has dreamed of her wedding since she was born.  But, this is a wedding for two.  And many grooms have their ideas and customs and things that are important to them.

Traditionally, the planning of the wedding has always been by the bride and her mother.  And, traditionally, the bride’s parents have paid for everything.  But, things have changed.   And today, many times it’s three incomes that are paying for the wedding so there are more voices involved in the planning.  Think about it.  Brides and grooms are older and they are the ones paying for a large part of the wedding.  So, now you as a couple and with whomever else is involved needs to decide how the budget will be allocated.   Who will pay for what?  And who will sign the contracts?  Usually the responsible party will sign the contracts.

One of the first things you should do after sitting down and talking and planning your budget is to hire a wedding coordinator.  You can hire a coordinator for the entire wedding, day of or anything in between.  A wedding consultant is one of the best investments you’ll make for your wedding.  Not only can a wedding consultant save you undo stress, he/she can help you budget.  And this person or company already knows the right people that can do the job for your wedding.  You can find one by going to the Premier Bride MS website.

Now you are off to a good start.  But, you have to still set a date.  That may determine the venue and other wedding professionals based on availability.  Have several choices and options in mind when you start looking and booking.  And if you are planning an outdoor wedding, have a plan for bad weather.  Once your venue is established, move on to the caterer, photographer and event designer.  These are all in high demand.

Many brides have found that a file or a binder with divisions for each company being hired is a great way for keeping organized.  Choose a binder with additional tabs for the Wedding Day Schedule, all your attendants, a list of all your vendors, plus a place for notes and other information. Before going to see the many wedding professionals, check out the latest issue of Premier Bride of Mississippi and check out these wedding professionals on the website.  Premier Bride of Mississippi is free and you can find distributors by going to the website.  Take a look at the various wedding professionals and then narrow your list down to three in each category. Now call and make appointments and see who you feel comfortable working with for you wedding.   When you find the vendor you like and trust, check to see if this person is available.  If they are and it’s a popular date, sign the contract and put down the deposit. Otherwise, if you wait too long, they may not be available.  Securing the key wedding professionals is a huge weight off your shoulders so you can focus on other things and enjoy your wedding.
