There is a small trinket that is one of my favorites for mothers, grandmothers and special people that you want to honor at your wedding with a small hand held bouquet…the Tussy Mussy.  A tussy mussy is a tiny, ornamental flower holder which made its first appearance in France during the eighteenth century. It’s a wonderful  accessory for the bride and every woman in her bridal party, including family members.

Tussy Mussies  are made from pewter, cobalt, glass, silver, gold, porcelain, and even plastic.   These delicate trinkets’ prices range from

twenty-five dollars to hundreds of  dollars, depending on the quality of your tussy mussy.  They are available  for purchase at your local jeweler and other shops specializing in bridal accessories.

What is more significant, however, is the flower arrangement inside of the tussy mussy (which is also called a tussy mussy). These bundles of flowers experienced a rise in popularity during the Victorian era, and their  purpose was to serve as a gift to a lady.

Each tussy mussy arrangement conveyed a hidden or unexpressed emotion, depending on the flowers  which the lady would receive.  A red rose means love, carnations symbolize admiration and fascination, lilies stand for purity, an ivy asks for fidelity, and a heather is for wishes to come true; every single flower has a

meaning, even grass, which signifies how time is fleeting.

The tussy mussy is an art of expressing yourself through flowers.  It is like a hidden language which the wearer must decode.

These arrangements sound like a fabulous gift idea from a bride-to-be to her bridesmaids or mothers, or if the bride is still short of something old, something new, borrowed, or blue.
