I DO Y'ALL

Weekly Wedding Tips: Ceremony

  1. Are your “little” attendants age appropriate?  Flower girls and ring bearers should be between four and eight years of age.  While a two-year old may be really cute, this tiny person is not predictable.  Go for adorable, sentimental, and age appropriate.
  2. Customize your wedding time.  It is not written in stone that your wedding ceremony has to take place between ten and two or six and eight.
  3. Make sure to choose the place of the ceremony BEFORE you choose your colors. You would think that nothing could clash with cirilian blue, but trust me you will find the walls of a banquet hall or a church that will.
  4. Take in consideration the best gown particularly if your religious ceremony calls for possible kneeling.  A form fitting/mermaid dresses may not be your best choice.
  5. Take the photos before the ceremony.  It’s rude to keep your guests waiting.
  6. To include more people in the ceremony have them read a poem or prayer or sing a song at the ceremony.
  7. If you and your mom are very close, think about asking her to be your “matron” of honor, or have both parents walk you down the aisle. Just don’t leave out Mom.
  8. Keep in mind that things will not go completely according to plan. That is not necessarily a bad thing. It gives the entire ceremony “personality” and will give you lots to laugh about later and early memories to last a lifetime.
  9. During the ceremony, recognize important people by giving them flowers.
  10. Ask the officiant to work into the homily or ceremony, a story about your meeting or courtship.
  11. Can’t find a ring bearer? Use the family pet!
  12. At the ceremony, arrange the chairs so that everyone surrounds you.
  13. Really personalize your ceremony, ask a friend to get ordained online so he/she can preside over your nuptials.
  14. If  allowed, decorate the aisle with objects meaningful to the two of you and/or your family heritage.
