Traditional Thursday: Who NOT to Bring Wedding Dress Shopping

Bridesmaids|Universal Pictures|Neal Peters Collection

Shopping for beautiful wedding dresses is an iconic event for a bride-to-be. With the popularity of making dress shopping a family/friends’ event, many brides are faced with the decision to pick and choose who will attend. When trying to decide who to invite, consider not letting these four types of people tag along!

  • Overly Critical Family Member – You might not realize it now, but an overly critical family member (whether from your side or the groom-to-be) will share their “lovely” opinions about your potential wedding gown, no matter how rude or hurtful. You are not obligated to invite anyone dress shopping, much less someone that makes it their mission to be hurtful or rude.
  •  A Slew of your Sorority Sisters – The more is not always the merrier when it comes to wedding gown shopping. Overzealous opinions, conflicting schedules and just accommodating all of your crew will make your day of delightful wedding gown shopping difficult to do. Just stick to a small group of your dearest friends to share in this special day. All of your pals will see you debut your final pick on your wedding day!
  • Flower Girls or Ring Bearers – Little ones have a limited attention span and patience for what seems to them as “boring” activities. Yes, this is a special day to you and you are thrilled to be shopping for your wedding gown, but little ones are more interested in playing with pals than perusing through wedding attire. The exception should always be that if you have children from a previous marriage to include them as much as possible in your wedding plans. Dress shopping could be a special memory to share with your children, so have your camera handy for someone to snap sentimental  photographs of you all.
  • Your Groom – It’s worth the wait to have those special moments with your groom on your actual wedding day when he sees you for the first time. Yes, you do have to be creative to conceal on social media pictures that your friends may want to post of you when you are wedding dress shopping. You will be glad that you waited to reveal your wedding gown until the big day to your husband-to-be.
